The horseshoe, the rock, and the hunk of wood

Once, three objects sat side by side in a pasture: a horseshoe, a rock, and a hunk of wood from a fallen tree.  The hunk proclaimed, "I am mighty and strong.  I was once a powerful oak, proud and magestic.  I have known beauty and life running through me.  I am old and wise with time.  I shall live forever!"
The rock sighed at the hunk of wood's boastfulness.  "You know nothing of strength, friend.  I was forged over many years, deep within the Earth.  I have seens many centuries pass, yet here I sit.  I have felt life ebb and wane around me, and will know many centuries to come.  You will wither long before I begin to erode.  I am stronger than you."
The horseshoe snorted.  "You have no strength when compared to me.  I am born of fire and steel.  I have travelled far and through the roughest of terrains.  I have seen more than either of you could possibly dream.  The horse who once wore me passed long ago, yet I linger on.  I am the strongest of all!"
Just then a storm gathered above them, and through thunder and lightning and streams of water it called to the three below:
"All of you are puny and weak!  Your crowing offends me, for I am the master of you all!  Hunk of wood, you are but from a tree, a tree who feed on my water.  Rock, you cooled and hardened under my mist.  Horseshoe, who was forged when bathed in my watershed.  You are my children, and I shall destroy you all with time."

Just then, some guy came along and hit the storm in the face with a shovel, because seriously.  That cloud was being a dick.

Moral:  Don't be a dick.
